Ozzy Osbourne, legendary frontman of Black Sabbath and one of the most influential figures in rock history, has died at age 76. The news was confirmed by his family in a statement posted to Instagram on Tuesday, just weeks after his final concert performance in Birmingham, England.

Osbourne’s passing marks the end of a groundbreaking career that spanned more than five decades. His final live appearance came earlier this month, when he reunited with his original Black Sabbath bandmates for a one-night-only performance at Villa Park stadium. That concert, hailed by fans as a fitting sendoff, came after years of health struggles that forced Osbourne to retire from touring in 2023.

The cause of death has not been officially announced, though Osbourne had publicly battled Parkinson’s disease since 2020. The condition, which affects the nervous system and causes tremors, slow movement, and balance issues, had increasingly limited his ability to perform. His death, while not unexpected, still sent shockwaves through the music world. Musicians including Elton John and Ronnie Wood were among the first to pay tribute following the announcement.

“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the family’s statement read. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Days before his death, Osbourne’s daughter Kelly took to Instagram to address renewed speculation about a rumored suicide pact between her parents, Ozzy and Sharon. “Stop making articles or posts about how you think my parents are having a suicide pact,” she wrote, calling it a misunderstanding based on a comment Sharon made in a 2007 interview. At the time, Sharon had mentioned the couple’s belief in euthanasia in cases of severe illness, but Kelly dismissed the idea as “something my mom said to get attention one time.”

Parkinson’s disease affects roughly 1 million people in the United States and an estimated 10 million globally, according to the Parkinson’s Foundation. Though not directly fatal, the condition often leads to complications that can significantly shorten life expectancy. Treatments include medications to manage symptoms, physical therapy, and even surgical options like tremor-blocking implants. In advanced cases, the disease can cause respiratory issues that increase the risk of fatal complications.

For millions of fans around the world, Ozzy Osbourne was more than a singer — he was a symbol of rock’s chaotic brilliance and resilience. His passing closes the book on a singular career that helped define a genre and influenced generations of artists. Yet for many, his last show was the final chapter he wanted to write.

While some remember Osbourne for the headlines, stage antics, and even from reality television, others will remember him for his unmistakable voice and enduring spirit. His music, his legend, and his legacy will continue to resonate for decades to come.
